Bay of Plenty Education Trust
The Bay of Plenty Education Trust is a charitable organisation established in 1985.
Vision: To transform the lives of young New Zealanders and their communities through education
Mission:
The preservation, management and increase of the Trust’s assets and income
The objective of the Trust is the advancement of education by the provision of grants, loans, scholarships, financial assistance or other means as the Board sees fit
The Trust aims to achieve this charitable objective by:
- the provision of Scholarships for tertiary study.
- the development of ideas and facilities for the enhancement of education in the region.
- the funding of community trade training schemes (presently through the ‘Instep’ programme).
- the development of future leaders in the community.
Values:
The Trust will work in partnership with BOP coastal communities to inspire and empower people to enhance education. The work of the Trust will be based on the following values:
- Partnership - The Trust values long-standing relationships with its schools, business partners, beneficiaries, and communities
- Fairness and Equity - The Trust will function in a “fair” way based on financial and educational need; it will take into account demographics such as ethnicity, population numbers and geographic spread
- Empowerment and Inspiration - The trust works through education to equip and supply the trust’s beneficiaries with the ability to succeed in their chosen field.
The trust seeks to inspire and influence positive change in beneficiaries’ future activities
- Transparency - The trust’s activities are designed to be open and accountable, operating in such a way that it is easy for others to see what actions are performed and why.
- Philanthropy - The trust is a volunteer organisation that operates by identifying and exercising the trust’s values in giving financial support to the benefit of others.
The work of the trust is a private initiative, for public good, focusing on funding education based strategies as a means to contribute to quality of life for individuals and communities.
- Integrity - The Trust will always adhere to the principles expressed in its Vision and Mission statement;
- Consistency - The Trust will always be consistent in its decisions and actions;
- Professionalism - The Trust will always act in accordance with professional principles applicable to its activities.
